As leaders of the City Data Alliance, a network comprising over 100 cities across North, Central, and South America, the Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence sought to enhance its data governance infrastructure. Faced with the challenge of navigating cultural nuances within its expanding global portfolio, the center aimed to clarify and streamline its approach to data equity across multiple departments. Our mission was to embed racial equity into their service delivery model, ensuring that data governance practices reflected the contexts of various localities, and in doing so could become inclusive and equitable.

The Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence successfully began the integration of racial equity into its data governance practices, creating a more inclusive and equitable approach across its global portfolio. Insights from the training and facilitation process were applied to internal operational procedures, external teaching and coaching guides, and thought leadership initiatives. The internal alignment process and extensive professional development training improved how data is managed, analyzed, and utilized within the organization. These changes have been reflected in both internal operations and external engagements, influencing data governance practices across 130 cities worldwide.
